Carter Architecture

is a design studio based in the southern Rocky Mountains, engaged in the practice of crafting spaces, land and atmospheres that resonate with their context.

Carter Architecture was founded by Dan Carter, AIA in 2020. Dan is a midwesterner by birth, spent his childhood in the northeast, and pursued his education as an architect in the Kansas prairie. After receiving his Masters of Architecture at Kansas State University, Dan joined Lake|Flato Architects in San Antonio. Following his stint outside of Texas hill country, he relocated to the southern edge of the Rocky Mountains. His tenure in a variety of landscapes engrained an appreciation for the vernacular - buildings without architects - from boathouses in Connecticut to mines in Colorado. The humility and necessity of these structures provides an ethos for creating works of architecture across the country.

Outside of the studio, Dan can be found knee deep in a creek looking for trout or chasing his bird dog for quail and grouse. He prefers if at all possible to be outside, and really enjoys a good mountain.
